Duo Unity - Poetry at the Moulin Rouge Paris
Lea Toran Jenner and Francis Perreault - better known as the duo Unity - are the kind of artists you don't just photograph, you experience. What they create with their Cyr Wheel is more than just artistry. It is movement with soul, balance with meaning. Their body language is precise, their interplay blind trust - and that is exactly what makes them so strong on stage.
It is no coincidence that they regularly perform at the legendary Moulin Rouge in Paris. This place is more than just a theater - it is a stage for the world's elite. Those who perform here are not only in the spotlight, but in the legacy of great art. Between glamor and history, one thing counts above all: absolute excellence. Duo Unity brings just that - technically brilliant, artistically sensitive and with a presence that remains in the memory.
My contribution
Not many photographers get the opportunity to take photos at the Moulin Rouge in Paris - which made this photo shoot all the more impressive for me. The look behind the scenes in particular had its own special charm: I was allowed to accompany Lea and Francis editorially, from their arrival to the warm-up phase to the big performance on stage. We visited their dressing room together, took in the final concentration before the performance - and finally captured the magic on stage.
Especially on stage, the light was a real challenge: it changed from bright to dramatically dark in seconds, every movement brought new contrasts. A lot of sensitivity was required here - both in the exposure and in the choice of lenses. I deliberately worked flexibly, switching between fast fixed focal lengths and a zoom lens in order to capture both the intimacy of the preparation and the dynamics of the performance.
Lea and Francis are not only absolute professionals, but also two warm, open people. And that's exactly what makes working with them so special.
